A Paraffin Parrot
The peace and stillness of the moor was broken by this little paraffin parrot who suddenly appeared over Hookney Tor at about 50 feet and traveling at a great rate of knotts. Although out of sight, you could not fail to hear his approach and I expect the pilot was a little surprised as he flipped over the top of the Tor, to see me standing there pointing a telephoto lens at him!
Mind you it must have been a perfect day for a trip over the moor. I remember my flights, courtesy of the Royal Navy, whilst in the Marines. great fun flying between the tors at very low level and occasionally having to disembark by means of a twenty foot rope!
Why "Paraffin Parrot" The smell from its exhaust smelt just like paraffin
