Graduation Day

As I write this it is almost 100 degrees F outside, and we are preparing to go to grandson Will's high school graduation ceremony which will be outside on the football field. The cooling salads have been made, Jim filled our freezer with popsicles, Ian's mom brought sandwiches and Ian's Dad brought beer.

The cooler is filled with ice and drinks. There are 500 paper plates and napkins on the counter. OilMan is convinced that the Safeway will run out of ice before he gets any and that he will collapse of heatstroke during the graduation ceremony. I told him that unless he feels convinced that he can't survive, he needs to belt up and be proud of his grandson without complaining.

The logistics are complicated. The gates open at 4:30, an hour ahead of time, but unless we go earlier, there will be no place to park. Our most excellent neighbor Cindy, who , with two kids in college is a veteran of graduations here, came by with a huge plate of cookies and lots of good advice about the best place to sit (top row of bleachers so we have something to lean against  and can catch any breeze that might come up.) She also offered to take us and drop us off so that we don't have to sit in the sun for an extra hour and a half. I think we'll take her up on that.

With all the logistics involved, I decided not to take my camera, so I took a picture of Will's graduation announcement which Dana gave us last night. The extra is of Will on the right and his friend Bobby who has been his friend since preschool and will be his roommate next year at Cal Poly. It has been quite a journey, and we are ever so proud of our first grandchild's achievements. Congratulations, Will, and much success as you enter the next phase of your life.
