Blue Dasher Dragonfly
Today my granddaughter Ari came to visit and we had a short walk to the pond as the dragonflies were in abundance, but so were the golfers:) We found several of the species I had seen before, but this one was a new one for me!!!
The Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) is a dragonfly of the skimmer family. Now just to clear up any questions about the name...longipennis means "long wings"! Even saying that, the wings are not particularly long. Females do, however, have a short abdomen that makes the wings look longer in comparison.
