The house with no light

A funny thing happened on a photoshoot today at an old empty building on the outskirts of the Castle estate. The 14th century hall house has been unoccupied for almost two years and had an eerie feel about it.

The photographer and I ventured into what was once a pantry to photograph a 1930s slate-lined storage unit as we captured a photographic record of the house before renovation works begin. The room was dark with a small slitted window fitted with mesh rather than glass thereby creating a cool draft into the room.

The photographer set his camera to trigger the flash and focused on the storage unit. The flash gun fired and he reviewed the shot only to find the screen was black. "That's not possible!" he exclaimed.

He attempted the shot again but to no avail. Most puzzling. Then once more, again and again. We discussed that perhaps there was a ghost, I giggled nervously then suddenly the camera worked and we moved onto the next room.

A few minutes later we returned to take another shot and yet again the camera wouldn't show an image! Finally after a few minutes and yet again acknowledging there must be a ghost in the room we found the camera working again.

Our only conclusion was that a ghost was there making its presence known and really was most disgruntled by our intrusion. Spooky indeed! Any photography experts reading this please impart your possible technical explanation...

My blip photo is a lantern that caught my eye in one of the hall rooms. No idea if it has any historical significance so I will enquire with the curator and report back.

In other news the climate in England has switched to almost Siberian temperatures so everyone is freezing and my summertime photoshoot is postponed to next week. Hurry up summer!
