At Strathaven Mill

We were at a concert tonight to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Scottish Covenanter Memorials Association, which maintains all the memorials to the 17th century Covenanters fought to preserve the religious freedom we enjoy in Scotland today.

Between 1637 and 1688 the Covenanters fought for civil and religious liberty against the Stuarts who sought to impose the Divine Right of Kings.  The Church of Scotland is descended from these people.

The concert was terrific, such talent, there was singing, dancing, piping, and drama.   The play was a dramatization of the life and death of David Steel, a covenanter martyr, and present in the audience was Lord Steel, who is a descendant of David Steel's brother.  We really enjoyed it.

And it was interesting to see the Strathaven Mill which has been converted into a small theatre, and is very nice indeed.

We had a beautiful sunset as we came home tonight, after another warm and sunny day.   Long may it last.
