A Day Out

The Bank of Scotland Foundation invited lots of charities to a social digital media workshop.

Intro from the Bank and how their staff are developing training in Digital Champions to then train out in the community and in assisting charities to develop digital skills.

Google's Digital Garage free online training course was explained and how it helps to be digitally aware to promote charities and what they do and tips on how to get noticed online.

Reason Digital gave info about Website design and information how to promote your charities online thru other social sites and how to engage with the digital community and what not to do ;-)

SCVO Digital talked about funding and training available to help charity volunteers to develop their training in social media and then how to share that knowledge with the charity's clients. Also Digital Participation Charter in Scotland.

I am definitely a dinosaur when it comes to tech. I used to be interested but have had many years recently of using tech until it 'dies' rather than keeping up-to-date like most folk do.

So, today was really useful to remind me of what I do know, but how I can move forward to learn about the technologies used everyday and how to access the digital communities again. And hopefully, help a little more in promotion work.

We have just recently set up a facebook page for our foodbank, but I know how to use facebook for myself with friends and family but not so sure about how to as a charity.

Lots of info to dissect and make sense of, but an interesting day and also catching up with other charities over lunch.

Thank you to all the speakers.
