Piggy-back ride
I spotted a Crested Grebe on my walk by the River Weaver this evening. It wasn't diving or sleeping, just sitting there. They often do this when they are waiting for their mate .... so I waited ..... and waited ..... and waited ... and after about 30 minutes s/he arrived. What I hadn't noticed (until it got down to greet its parent) was that the Grebe I had been watching was carrying their chick on its back. I hadn't realised that Grebe did this until I saw fellow blippers had posted similar shots... its amazing the things I have learnt since I started blipping.
The extras show both parents with the chick.
