Wainwright marathon.

With the A591 open again, it means the South Lakes are easy to get to from Keswick again. I have a gaping hole in my Wainwright tally of most of the South Lakes, so headed off in the direction of Tilberthwaite today in order to walk over Wetherlam.

The views up were splendid, and I loved the combination of fell and the historical mines and old buildings, like the one in the photograph. On reaching the top of Wetherlam, at only 12.30, Swirl Howe seemed just a short extension to the walk, then Great Carrs beckoned me, after which Brim Fell didn't look an unreasonable distance. Once there, it was only a short walk to the top of Coniston Old Man as well, so a 6 mile, one Wainwright walk turned into a 14 mile, 5-Wainwright walk!

Absolutely fabulous day, despite the crowds over the latter part of the walk.
