After work this morning - well someone has to work bank holidays - I decided to go to Baslow Edge and do some climbing... well soloing since there was only me. S isn't doing anything this week as he's going to Scotland for a couple of weeks on Friday, and with being self-employed he's got to clear all the current jobs.
Apart from climbing I wanted to familiarise myself with Baslow Edge, having only been there once before, and match the crags to the guidebook. I was only climbing easy routes obviously as I wasn't roped on, and I did wear my helmet as the landing wouldn't have been soft if I'd fallen!
I'd done the first route and was walking along the bottom of the Edge when I got into conversation with a couple who were kind enough to ask if I'd like to join them. I had to say no because I hadn't got my harness with me, just shoes and helmet, but said I'd walk along with them and do a route or two next to where they were going to climb.
Because I was on my own I felt more wary and less sure of my capabilities, but after a couple of successful climbs my confidence increased, which was just as well as I found one of the routes quite scary ...which resulted in me fighting with my brain... but in the end you just have to go for it as there's nothing else to do. Another route was heading for scariness until I faced the other way, and then it worked.
What an enjoyable day!
