A Fleeting Glimpse Before We Go
Today is our eighteenth wedding anniversary. Realistically, I should reflect upon how blessed I am to have found my perfect soulmate and shared so many wonderful years with her and the children who have completed my life. Yet, with so many momento mori in my family both now and in the still too recent past, I cannot help but be a little melancholy. Thankfully, I don't have to say too much because the mighty Robert Smith has already perfectly encapsulated my feelings right now in this heart-achingly poignant song.
A Perfect Blue Sky - Junkie X.L. featuring Robert Smith
Hand in hand we stand below a perfect blue sky
You and me alone again
It's not as if we have that long
No endless time to dream
To fall in love
To ever get to know
A few short summer days
Is all the sweetest life we ever live
A fleeting glimpse before we go
Side by side we slide below a perfect blue sky
Not sure where and not sure when
Side by side we slide under the perfect blue sky
Waiting for the world...
We always knew this day would come
Too soon the perfect blue
To grey and black
And all at once is cold
The hopes we had to grow
To understand the reasons why
All gone
A million stories left untold
So hand in hand we stand below a perfect blue sky
You and me alone again
Hand in hand we stand under the perfect blue sky
Waiting for the world
Oh dear, too melancholy? Well, I can't end on a gloomy note, can I? So, I have just received an email informing me that Mum is a little better than yesterday, her eyes lit up when she heard that I am on my way over and plans are proceeding for her to leave the hospital for the hospice on Tuesday. So. Mr. Smith, I say, "Yes, there are a million stories left untold, but that just means there are a million stories left to tell, and by crikey I am determined to make them happy ones!"
