Pretty in Pink

It's Memorial Day weekend in the U.S., which means a three-day weekend for most of us. It's a weekend when many people visit the graves of those they love who have passed on. It also represents the start of planting season and State Park season and all kinds of things.

The swimming areas should be open pretty much everywhere by now, and that's an activity that's on our list for the holiday weekend or shortly after; maybe shortly after, as sometimes the parks can be packed on holidays.

First frost usually occurs around mid-October in our area, and there is danger of last frost anytime up until about mid-May. For those who plant tender plants and veggies, mid-May to late May is when we usually get things started outdoors.

I had bought several new plants this week with the intention of planting them in a huge, bright pink pot: pink and purple fuchsia (Dancing Girls!), hot pink Gerbera daisy , and ageratum (fuzzy and purple and low). On this morning before it got too hot, I potted them in the backyard.

These are the Gerbera daisies, and you can see first-hand how shockingly pink they are! I think I will have lots of fun taking pictures of them over the summer. Blooms for photographers provide two opportunities: both the flowers themselves (and their shapes and colors in various lighting as well as during and after precipitation), as well as any visitors to the blooms.

On this day, we also installed the second, bigger air conditioner in the house. It's in the living room window, and between the two air conditioners and all the fans, the house is comfy once again. I am glad to report that Dexter and I are looking and feeling much happier than he looked (and I felt) in the day prior's picture!
