Farewell Dublin
My last day in Dublin has been great. My first visit was to Christ Church Cathedral which is such a stunning place. We visited there years ago when Bek was little and she was very imotessed with the mummified cat and rat down in the crypt so I had to check to see if it was still there - it is! My Blipfriend Soletrader has blipped the sculpture of Jesus laying on a bench outside which is very moving. Next I went to Saint Patrick's Cathedral which again is magnificent. Has a short rest sitting in the park next to St Patrick's to recharge the batteries a little then off to the Chester Beaty library in Dublin castle. I was amazed at some of the very earliest Gospel and other New Testament texts there dating from c. 200 AD. - just incredible to see them.
Next went down to the St Stephens park to sit with a cup of coffee and JP met me having finished his work. We went to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells - the gospels written over 1,000 years ago and still in fantastic condition. From there we went to the library - my photo - where over 200,000 books are kept - just wow!
Next along to see the Jeanie Johnson - a replica of a tall ship that was used to take many Irish people over to the 'New World' in the times of the famine - very thought provoking.
Back to the hotel to pick up our bags and got a taxi to the airport where we picked up a hire car. Drove down to Rathnew where we are staying the night at the Tinakilly Country House Hotel. Lovely meal at the hotel.
