Or to give it its full title, Euphorbia griffithii 'Fireglow'. Just emerging and looking more sophisticated than it will do in its maturity.

Indoors, the woodburner is glowing too. It has been a dull, cold day and we have been dull, cold and sluggish too. I feel sorry for the tourists gathering in the town - it's not consoling to be told that it was lovely last weekend.

We have decided to stay close to home. No visitors are scheduled. The offspring and their broods are heading to Devon, the Lakes and Cowal. Fingers crossed for sunshine in the West.
