"The Spear", 981m.
It rained most of the night (though not hard) and was still raining when we were ready to pack up - so we packed everything except the tent and hoped it would be a bit drier when we returned in the afternoon.
Our camping spot looked across to this magnificent mountain (which we climbed in 1975 in a heatwave and a swam in the pool in the extras) and was the reason we were there, Mr Rat was to run up it!
I was marshalling at the bridge over the burn - fellow marshal in yellow - and we had a walk-in of just over 2.5 miles along the loch shore in the rain and then had to count them all out as they ran past on the way up and then check they had all returned on the way out.
The rain turned showery and we even had a bit of sun and in the time in between I was able to go for a wander and take a few photos. Mr Rat came down with no-one immediately around so I was able to get his photo (extra) as he came past in the 1st 60+ place (good prize for the effort including a tealight with a map of the mountain on it).
The route had to be altered as the burns were very high an done had to be avoided but it didn't make the race any easier.
The 2 marshals waited until all but the last person and sweeper had passed before returning to base and a welcome dish of hot stew and then it was fetch the tent and drive back via Braemar to drop someone off - lovely evening for a scenic drive and not much longer than the A9 route would have been
