What time does the Youth Hostel open?

Do Hostellers still have to do a job as part of their overnight stay?
In 1954 when I was 15 I did a Grand Tour of the South West by bicycle, I did it alone because none of my mates were daft enough to join me.
The hills are just as steep and the scenery as stunning as ever, but much easier to appreciate by car.
We have had some wonderful walks during our stay in Cornwall.
