Brown Anole

Wandered across the street to the neighbor's back yard to see what was happening this morning. Yard cleanup was ongoing, and neighbor Kathy was surprised when a brown anole lizard popped out of a small woodpile. The brown anole is a tropical lizard native to Cuba and the Bahamas which was first observed in the southern U.S. in 1887. Kathy planted a couple palms in planters, and her husband Bob surmises that the lizard hitched a ride to northern Illinois from a southern state where the palms were grown.
