Cruise :: Day 12 :: Dawes Glacier
This is our last full day on our cruise. Tomorrow we arrive in Juneau...
We woke with a chill in the air and lumps of ice floating past the ship. We had arrived in Endcott Arm where Dawes Glacier is found.
After breakfast we were taken by skiff to within 1/4 mile of the glacier. Up close and personal! From there we were safe but could hear and see the falling ice crashing into the water. Hot chocolate was served while we watched.
Before lunch we repositioned into a sheltered cove within the Arm where some of the passangers and staff took a Polar Bear Plung!
After lunch some went out in kayaks and on paddleboards. Some even collected some ice from passing Growlers (small iceburgs).
In the evening we had a Captains dinner followed by a slide show of images taken by the crew during the trip. We then lost count of the number of whales spotted. Most retired to their cabins by 10pm but at 11pm the crew called us out as the northern lights were doing their thing!
This was followed by a number of Dalls porpoises playing at the bow of the ship.
Overall a great finish to a truely wonderful trip.
