The Omen of the Five Feathers

The moor is tinder dry right now. I wasn't around at the time, but there was a massive fire this afternoon, within sight of home, just a few hundred yards away. I arrived back to witness the sight of at least six fire crews at work. They had it all extinguished and under control. The land recovers quickly but it's still a sad sight. And very sad for any nesting birds.

As I took an evening walk to survey the damage I saw an omen in the sky. It was a beautiful evening, without a cloud in the sky except for the five little ones you see here. I saw my colleagues at the office today and they all want me to take more time off and not even think about work, which has certainly been causing me a lot of stress. They have been amazingly supportive. That said, I was in a strange and rather despondent frame of mind this evening when a friend posted a link on blip. It's hard to explain but the timing was rather propitious. So thank you Steve for cheering me up with this. He's compiled some quotes from the book I had published over 25 years ago. My thinking has moved on a little, and I'm not quite so polemical, but it was good to read some of my own words tonight.

PS And I've been photobombed by that crocodile rock again!
