Hoodmoulds and head stops

Today's the day ......................... to take a wrong turn

We were looking for a hall in a village about seven miles south of Kendal - to drop off some things to be auctioned on Wednesday. We thought we knew where to go but we took a wrong turn and ended up here.

This is altogether a much older hall - Preston Patrick Hall - which dates back to the 14th century. The name Preston Patrick is derived from Priest's town or Priest's farm and from Patrick de Curwen, an earlier owner of the manorial area. This window is described in the guidebook as being traceried and having hoodmoulds and head stops.

Not exactly sure what that means?! - but I do find it mind-blowing that people have been looking out of it down to where I was standing - for more than 600 years .............................
