The Twins
The Gambel's quail family darted through the yard this morning. It's a little sad to see a mom and pop with only two little ones at this point. These quail usually have quite large broods. I've seen as many as 14 babies tagging along with their folks in the past. It looks like this family has been decimated. The babies are prey for all sorts of desert critters, including but not limited to, rattlesnakes, roadrunners and hawks.
I thought this shot was especially cute. I loved the raggedness of the little one in front of his mama. Don't get spoiled. It's not likely I will catch them again anytime soon.
