Out of Seattle
(There was no wifi on the train so this is a backblip – the first in four years!)
This was a great train journey that took us through six States. We boarded the train in Seattle on Friday evening and arrived in Chicago on Sunday afternoon. The views were astonishing, the food was better then we expected, the accommodation was interesting and the people we met were wonderful. Our train is here.
We spent most of our time in the observation car, which was great for watching the scenery, with comfortable seating and windows all around. However, it was not good for photography, as it was all through not so clean windows, full of reflections. (One guy was going to clean the windows, but we were never stopped in any place for more than five minute, so he never got the chance.) I gave up in the end and just watched the wonderful unfolding scenery going by.
Saturday
We woke up this morning and found we were in Montana – rivers and forests. After an early breakfast we settled ourselves in the observation car and watched the most amazing landscape of mountains, forests and rivers, some real wildernesses - in Glacier National Park. We had the expert help of a couple of very knowledgeable volunteer National Park rangers, who were on board for this section, so we could identify what we were seeing. My blip is a view of the Rocky Mountains just before the highest point and the Continental Divide. The train had slowed somewhat at this point as we climbed to the summit.
Eventually we were travelling through the plains of Montana – vast areas of land and big skies. And by evening we were in North Dakota.
