Hot Times!
Our local square in Dokki, Cairo made the BBC world news front page this evening. The young man in the white shirt is standing on the exact spot where I hail a taxi every morning to go to school. The white cloud is tear gas released against those protesting against Egypt's handing over of the sovereignty of two of its islands in The Red Sea to Saudi Arabia, allegedly in return for 34 billion dollars of inward investment. The protest took place in April, while I was here, and 51 of the protestors have today been sentenced to two years in prison. I got a text warning us that day not to go onto the square. Just as well!
PS: 44C degrees today and we're both suffering!
