The Wadworth Shires (Saturday 14th May 2016)

I made my first visit of the year to see the wonderful Wadworth Shires at lunchtime. They were appearing at the George Inn at Lacock. I met both of them there and had a chat to Callum (seen here on the right). There are three shires but today Max had the day off, so Monty was paired with the newcomer Archie, now in active service but still in training. He likes to be busy so standing still for two hours was a bit of a stretch for him, but he behaved very well.

As Max is generally on the offside and Monty on the nearside, Archie is learning to work in either position, though apparently they mix it up from time to time so all get to experience everything.

I also made a visit to the Lacock Abbey grounds to have a picnic in the orchard, and finished just in time to catch them on the way back to the transporter, where they will be fed before being returned to their new improved stables at the brewery nearby in Devizes.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Yardbirds - Stroll On (recorded 3-5 October 1966, London, for the film Blow Up)
Until 5 October 1966 this was going to be a version of Tiny Bradshaw's 1952 hit, Train Kept A-Rollin', based on the Johnny Burnette Trio's version, as featured in the Yardbirds' stage show, but there were copyright problems and so they hastily wrote some new lyrics and credited the 'new song' to 'Hilda Young'. This is one of very few recorded examples of the brief line-up that featured the twin lead guitars of Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.
