Black Moshannon, with Clouds and Amphibs!

It was pouring down rain when we woke up, but by mid-morning, the rain was ending and the clouds were starting to break here and there for a bit of sunshine. I had personal business in Clearfield, which is just short of an hour from where we live. And so we were glad of the clearing; it's no fun to drive in heavy rain.

We were delighted to be able to enjoy a nice lunch at Moena's, a fine Italian restaurant in downtown Clearfield. We each ordered a steak salad topped half with waffle fries and half with fried onion straws, and then with cheese and ranch dressing slathered on top of that. Warm homemade butter bread was served on the side. It was a delicious meal and a lovely old-fashioned venue, and I have included a picture of the steak salad in the extra photos.

When our day's errands were concluded, we came home via a back road that took us through Black Moshannon State Park. One minute it was sunny and almost too warm. The next it was overcast and you were almost a bit too chilly. The sky was just amazing, ever changing, and full of dramatic clouds. You could have taken a million photos and it still wouldn't have been enough.

The really BIG story of the day, though, was the amphibian fest. For the lake echoed with the sound of their raucous calls, and the shallows all around the edges were quite busy. It was like a singles bar for amphibians. And then the sun came out, and love was in the air, as amphibian after amphibian paired up and celebrated the day in the good, old-fashioned style. (See photo in the extras.)

The song is Love Is In the Air, with clips from one of my favorite movies, Strictly Ballroom.
