The Scottish Play

Herewith a picture of Scottish historical character as depicted on the wall of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh.
Centre of picture is Macbeth well known through Shakespeare's play of the same name.
The historical Macbeth is somewhat different from the Shakespeare version. In history Macbeth took the Scottish crown through his wife's claim to the throne. His wife, Gruach is pictured beside him and by Duncan. Duncan was not the saintly figure as in the play and Macbeth did not murder him. Duncan was killed in battle against Macbeth and Macbeth may or may not have killed him.
Macbeth was King was 17 years and his crown was sufficiently secure to enable him to visit the Pope in Rome.
However, the play is good!
