HIGHLAND COUNCIL
There must be a special department within Highland Council - a dedicated group of people who have been given pots of money. Their morning briefing is to ask themselves only one question: "What can we do next to push Gaelic even more into the faces of the public?" This is their latest answer. This sign went up a week or so ago in the Crown area of Inverness. I have no objection to signage designed to help visitors find their way around the town - the town gets lots of visitors from all over the world. What I take objection to is the use of Gaelic - which here is given precendence over English. We have a lot of Polish workers resident here and tourists from Europe and the Far East. Gaelic signage does nothing for these people. I've ranted before about Gaelic roadsigns on Flick and Highland Way signs on Blip. Just wonder how long before the English translation disappears. With many money-wasting schemes lots of people gleefully point out that the money comes from the E.C. Oh well if it's coming from Greek taxpayers that's OK then.
