ROUTING THE NECK
Today CC spent the morning assembling & cannibalising an IKEA table to be used as a routing bench. Here he is routing the outline of a neck for a metal-stringed harp .
The turquoise Plexiglas on top is the template drawn in CorelDRAW & laser-cut by a friend down the road. He's bolted my Festool router under the table with the bit protruding up through the table.
The router bit has a ball-race on top which follows the template while its blades (super-sharp tungsten carbide steel) copy its shape with immaculate precision.
Result!
Just to the right of CC's head, as featured in the thumbnail you can see the Fox Bending Machine at work - it's an ingenious contraption which bends guitar sides with the minimum of swearing in 15 minutes.
Us old-timers used to use a blow-torch & a short length of scaffold pipe & as much swearing as it took...
