Bromley Park
This is the ruin of the home of Sarah and Malachi Brain. It is one of several stone ruins within a kilometre or two of where I live. The Brains left their home in Somerset and migrated to South Australia in 1840, only two years after the colony was established. Malachi had cattle in the Skilly Hills as early as 1843, one of the first white people to settle here. Today the ruin is overgrown by two huge pepper trees that are destroying the walls. Here we are looking out the front door across the floor timbers above a cellar. I have photographed this place several times, never happily. It has an odd feel about it that makes me uncomfortable.
