Zen
of Seeing by Frederick Franke
was the inspiration for the artist who gave a talk at our art society this evneing. She found herself with painters block two years ago after a long break from producing any work. The book belonged to a friend she went on holiday with and inspired her to go home and start drawing once more. Tonight she did a demonstration of drawing without looking at your paper.. by looking closely at the object you are drawing, studying it carefully.. imagining it inside your head before closing your eyes and drawing it or by just looking at the object and not down at your paper. After her talk and demo she handed us all lots of paper, some drawing and colouring implements and we sat down infront of various still lifes.. the results were wonderful and there was lots of laughter and happiness in the room. l like my teapot.. it's quirky but interesting.. perhaps more interesting than the plain blue round teapot l was drawing !!
Give it a go.. it is most liberating!
