Hard life of a Girl Child

11th May 2016:

This is Esnart Mkandawire one of the  girls we enable to attend Secondary school. Her story is tragic but she has not buckled under the strain and is a real survivor.
She is 18 in Form 2 and lives with a relative and her two younger sisters, since their mother left them and disappeared.
She has a two year old son and as Malawian men  do, the father of the child took off and has never supported her in any way.
Naturally her relative Joseph and his wife did not want her to go to school believing that she should stay home and look after them, her sisters and her child.
To help support the extended family she sells sugar cane, a pretty low profit  business.
Oh her father died after a short illness: Stated cause of death:
WITCHCRAFT.
Witchcraft is big business in Malawi.

This information has just come to light, so we will have to support the whole family, however we can, to survive all these tragedies and get Esnart and her sisters through school without having to sell more than sugar cage, to put it mildly.

Sadly this is an everyday reality for the poor Girl Child in Malawi

Maybe it is totally inappropriate to mention Exam Results, but she managed 48 in Geography, 45 in English, 40 in Agriculture and 35 in Chichewa. What might she do with a little help from her friends?

How can all this be considered fair and just in this Globalised World of ours and where millions in AID money flow into Malawi.
