What is in the middle

I had a nice sit outside at lunch time today, the weather is a little fresher but still very mild. The work garden is rather wild but there are some good shrubs to investigate. I was hoping to spot a bumblebee so where as I rescued a tree bee on Sunday. There was no sign of her, but I did peep into the magnolia and found this rather structural centrepiece for my blip.
