School of Seven Bells

Went to see this band at Stereo in Renfield Lane tonight. Apologies for the rough photo, but it was pretty dark.

They've made three albums so far, although I can't say they are all classics. However, if you took the best tunes from each one and put them together you would have a bloody good record.

Needless to say, like all incredibly hip Americans, they come from Brooklyn, although the guitarist is originally from Dallas. An interesting mix of electronics and programmed beats with guitars and ethereal vocals, and very reminiscent of 80s Dream Pop like Propaganda or the Cocteau Twins in places. There are also nods to classic 70s Krautrock icons like Neu! and Harmonia.

Saw the singer from Glasvegas at the gig, who was wearing a t-shirt of his own band, which is quite sad. Probably had nothing clean and had to raid the merchandise van...
