Last Chick Standing

Momma Limpkin began with 4 chicks. Another photographer told me this morning that yesterday he saw a Red-shouldered Hawk swoop down and grab one of the little ones. About 20 minutes later...it happened again. Apparently later in the day another chick was taken. Very sad, but of course, in the scheme of things, hawk babies must eat also! So this is her last chick. We decided that she must be a 'first time' mom, since she seems to prefer open areas rather than places with more cover. Who knows. So hug your own offspring or at least give them a call. Happy Mothers' Day!
