Slagheap Sculpture
After more gardening on yet another lovely day we went to the now disused Bersham Colliary, near Wrexham to see our friend, Ian Walton's, imposing 12' steel sculpture which stands proudly on top of the 50ft Bersham slagheap. Ian, a brilliant artist and fellow glider pilot has now turned his hand, very successfully, to creating steel sculptures Major Miner being his first public venture and a tribute to all the Miners of the area and which can be seen from miles around . . Mr T ventured a little way up the slagheap with me but I climbed even further up to try to get a few shots of the very pleasing sculpture, a couple in Extras. Then we went to see the man himself at his place of work where he was holding an art class. Luckily it was around lunchtime and his class was just breaking for lunch so we were able to have a bite to eat ourselves and spend some time with our friend. Ian told us that Minor Miner is under construction at the moment; a child miner to accompany Major Miner.
I'm not complaining about the weather, but golly, it has been very sultry today and playing havoc with my sinuses. To cool off I went for a nice amble in the woods just up the road from us. Lots of Bluebells, a flash or two of blue from a couple of passing Jays, a friendly Robin, a few rabbits and a gorgeous little Wren who I just managed to get a shot of in another Extra.
