Shorts, suncream & camera: all errors.

This morning dawned (it wasn't really dawn when I arose) beautifully sunny and warm.  A good day to go up the hills and see what birds are around.

No.  The cold wind caused the shorts to be changed immediately for trousers.  There suncream never came out of the rucksack.  I had a great view of a wren just a few metres away but when I whipped the camera out it flew off.  And apart from pipits and skylarks there was nothing about.

Back home to tea in a sunny garden, with swallows, house martins and the first swifts of the year.  Tits & goldfinches on the bird feeder - there was a redpoll yesterday and siskins in recent weeks.

Yet the fells, in the main, are a wildlife desert.  But that's another story . . . .
