May dip!!

The all night party was great - lots of wonderful friends and games. We didn't play too many drinking games so hardly anyone got too drunk, and almost everyone made it out to the beach.

We arrived at East Sands just before 5am, just in time to catch this beautiful sunrise. As is tradition in St Andrews, on the first day of May each year, all students run into the sea to become cleansed of any academic sins. As is tradition in canoe club, it has to be done naked.

It's always an interesting skinny dip due to so many other people present, including police and paramedics. One year a group of students said that they were horrified by our nudity. However, this year we actually had a group of people clapping us and saying how brave we were. We definitely weren't the only ones doing it naked too (although it's much more common with boys).

After three skinny dips (it was such a wonderful morning and my final time to do it so I didn't want it to end), we got dressed and headed over to Ty's house for breakfast. This was absolutely incredible - I ate a huge amount of hash browns and toast and bacon cooked in maple syrup.

Then back to the flat - I got in at 6.40am and was in bed by 7. Off to sleep until midday where I forced myself to stay awake (I didn't want to mess up my sleeping pattern). After that I have done very little today except read and watch TV and I am now VERY ready for bed!

What a wonderful tradition! I should start looking into what Cambridge has to offer...
