Le Tour

de Yorkshire. When we planned this trip we had no idea that le Tour de Yorkshire was due to pass very close by today. If the weather had been nicer, we'd have gone out to watch one of the climbs, but as it was raining, again, we stayed close to home and popped out to stand on the bridge in Rudby. Where we promptly met an old schoolfriend of S's, who had come on his bike.

As ever, the riders passed quickly by after all the police motorbikes in Yorkshire had done a lap of honour (I was convinced it was the same three going round and round). While his team mates led the peloton, the overnight leader, Dylan Groenewegen, was trailing along at the back, but he'd already said he wouldn't win. And he was right. It was good to see that famously combative Frenchman Thomas Voeckler came up from 8th to grab the prize today. See also a fellow blipper's take.

Back home, I decided to make some scones to justify the clotted cream we bought in Sainsbury's the other day. I used R's recipe which I remembered making superb, light as air scones. Mine came out like mutant giant rock cakes, quite embarrassing to look at, and so huge that half a scone each was enough. But they were very light, and delicious with jam and cream.
