Day 8 Haltwhistle Spring/Winter Walking Festival
Yet another group photograph from the Walking Festival.
Today I led the short walk, an 8 mile circular from Simonburn Village, via Goatstones and the recently discovered pre-historic burial site there.
We were 29, including the 3 of us on the team. It was sunny from the start and there was just one short period of rain during the afternoon. Fortunately we had taken early coffee and lunch stops in the sun, otherwise we might have had a repeat of yesterday's wet lunch.
It was wonderful to have a party of 9 along from Ashington. They were camping at Haltwhistle. 8 were born in the Philippines and most are health care workers in the north east. I mention them because, in this area, we would very rarely see walkers from anther ethnic background. One of this group organises the others for walks and other activities.
A first for the Walking Festival was that one brought along a selfie stick! Now that really is a rarity amongst walking circles. We have reached the 21 century at last!
They are in training for Ben Nevis.
I'm going to have a couple of days rest now. Time to catch up with all the photographs that need posting on our website.
