My Other Half ....
Before we left home for this vacation I had purchased some gift certificates for some local restaurants. Typically we eat breakfast at the condo but today we had breakfast at one on these restaurants. I can’t say it was a good choice. The food was overpriced and the wait staff not very friendly. When we asked what type of bread they had, her response was: “We have all kinds except sourdough. I have been listing all the bread for over 20 years and I just can’t do it anymore. I just can't do it again.” That just about sums up our breakfast experience.
After breakfast we returned to our condo and got ready for our next big adventure … we headed back to Fulmouth to see more of the sights there that we missed on our first visit there the other day.
No wait … first we went back to Barnstable to check out the sanctuary at Skunknett River. We only walked a little ways in on the trail as there wasn’t much to see. The only things worthwhile seeing were a few chipmunks.
Then it was on to Fulmouth and Woods Hole!
While in Woods Hole we stopped back at the Woods Hole Science Aquarium as it was closed on Monday when we were there. This is a very nice (but small) science aquarium that is owned by the federal government and operated by NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service. Along with the fish tanks inside (see extra) they have two non-releasable harbor seals that they rescued and care for. If you look closely at the fish in the lower left picture of my extra you can see this fish has teeth! I had to look it up ... it's a queen triggerfish!
In the Fulmouth/Woods Hole area is a ten mile plus bikeway that runs from the Woods Hole ferry terminal all the way to North Fulmouth. This bikeway is similar to our "Rails to Trails" trail that we have here in Pennsylvania. On our way back to the condo we stopped at one of parking areas along the trail and walked a little bit of it. Where once again we saw many osprey both soaring overhead and in their nests. And also some derelict piers.
We had dinner at the condo and then went back out to South Cape Beach to watch the sunset one final time. Unfortunately by the time we got the beach it was very overcast and the sun set behind the clouds … not spectacular.
