Quondam Days...(former times in other words)

Struggled with today's challenge as I didn't want to do the obvious, mainly because I couldn't think what the obvious would be.

So I ended up with this - my great-grandfather's "turnip" pocket watch that he used when he worked on the railways early in the last century.

Never have discovered why they were called turnips. Presumably it's the shape?
