I believe...

...in miracles.

I don't know what else to call it. Serendity? Chance?

Last Wednesday, straight out of the blue, I was told that my job is being downgraded and that I had to start looking for another job. My line manager tried to be kind but I felt like I had been punched right in the solar plexus. I was reeling. After being dumped in my relationship, it felt like I was kicked when I was half way back up again.

I left the office and a couple of blocks away I saw an old colleague, L, at the intersection. Without thinking, I told her my job was being downgraded and asked if she had any jobs at my level. She said she was sorry to hear the news, she didn't think there were any jobs and that she would be happy to have me join her team. That felt like a great act of compassion. I felt useless and here was someone I respect saying she would be happy to have me work with her. I went home, cried a lot more, and wrote a letter to the universe asking for help in finding a new job.

I had no idea that encounter would make all the difference. The following morning L spoke to her team, said I was available and could they 'snap [me] up before anyone else did'. Later that afternoon L sent me an email (which I saw on Friday morning) saying they had a temporary post and would I be interested? Today, I got the green light to move into a new job on disability rights. I couldn't be happier! It's great work with a great team who actively want me to join them. Hurrah!

I don't know how the universe works - obviously - but within an hour I was told that the job I have loved for the past five years was going to cease to exist in its current form and I met the person who was going to give me my next job. If she hadn't been at that intersection when I got there...talk about sliding doors. I think the universe thought I needed a shove because I had no intentions of looking for another job.

Whatever it is - a miracle, serendipity, chance - let's dance http://youtu.be/JIN36NweL6I

There was no quiz tonight but my team mates (one of whom I've blipped) got together to raise a glass with me.

THANK YOU UNIVERSE!
