Melbourne walking tour
I went to a popular Vietnamese bakery around the corner from where I was staying and had a seriously delicious banh mi. I walked in to the city centre and bought a sim card for my phone. The data packages are so cheap in Australia! At 2.30pm I joined a free walking tour, recommended by my friend Emily. The first half of it was all about the history of Melbourne and Australia. The second half was full of street art (see the extra photo) and the modern culture of the city. The guide was great and definitely earned her tip.
I met Emily at a nice wine bar and then we met some of her friends for some dumplings in Chinatown. It was the last few days of the Melbourne Comedy Festival and three of us went to a show which was a collection of stand-up acts who have their own shows during the festival. The compère was Sami Shah, a Pakistani comedian who I instantly recognised from the recent series of QI. During an interval, I approached him and asked if he was on QI. We chatted for a while about the show and Stephen Fry. He briefly told me about how he ended up on the show, which is his favourite, when they approached him.
Back on stage shortly afterwards, he announced to the crowd that he was going to talk about his relationships but some guy (me) had recognised him, which he said never happens, and so he did a routine about his day recording QI. It was fantastic! Basically he got really nervous so drank lots of wine and water, then he was so desperate for a pee that he had to stop the filming and use the bathroom. While he was relieving himself, he laughed at the situation and then let out a sigh at the end. When he walked back on set, he realised that everyone, including the audience had heard him as he still had his microphone on!
