Grazing.

Stourbridge Common is now classed as a local Nature Reserve and is being managed to encourage diversity of animals and plant species. Grazing is allowed from April 1st until November 30th each year,. but no more than 53 geldings, horses or cows are allowed. This is quite a busy part of the common having cycle paths  leading to Newmarket Road and the city centre. The cattle like to congregate by the cycle and footbridge  and sometimes are difficult to move. A few years ago they broke into the children's playground at the back of this picture and stampeded through. Luckily nobody was hurt, but bicycles have been chased. A tip from a rancher says that it's best to go around the outside of  the  animals and they will run off thinking they are being herded. Also, for some reason, if you slap your hand on your forehead it will make them run away. I just creep past hoping they don't notice me.
