Evictions

The much dreaded evictions in Sa Penya have been happening yesterday & today... We went to the Market Square to be close by, watched police blocking roads off etc... We ended up being joined in the café by Chani & some people...it felt a huge honour to be able to sit & talk together on this momentous day....to just grieve all that is happening to them.
Although it's been reported as a peaceful operation, they've had guns pointed at them, so who wouldn't be 'peaceful' then?! Houses have been totally cemented & bricked up so no one can return, all electricity & water has been disconnected...and these people have nowhere to go. The government wants them off the island, but for many of the Roma, they were born here, their kids are in school here! We've offered our flat as a stop gap, but that would get just literally a roof over a few people's heads, our friends have offered theirs too...who knows if we'll get taken up on our offer.

Our prayer team arrives tonight, though gutted 2 of them won't be able to make it...one because of the air strikes & therefore their flight being cancelled! The other because his wife is in hospital with meningitis (my Dad!)!

Today I'm grateful for;
1) The privilege to sit & listen & talk with some of the Sa Penya guys. It was a  honour to have time with them on such an important day.
2) Praying with Abby today.
3) Feeling secure in my home.
