Wide Wednesday : Avon weir at Bathampton

Unprocessed apart from conversion from RAW to jpg, this is the bridge and weir across the river Avon at Bathampton. A test shot. I don't know who's curating wide wednesday this week [ oh, it's BobsBlips ], but here it is. Best viewed large. :-)

The bridge ends at a toll, 70p for cars, and although in these days that might seem quaint and archaic it's possibly the only way to retain this bridge as-is. It's too narrow for two way traffic, and the operators spend as much time on the bridge as in the tool booth, guiding the traffic flows.

We were in Bathampton to have lunch with a couple of friends who live and work from a narrowboat, currently moored nearby; Chris, the fabulous leatherworker who made my Greenman sporran, and Jinny her partner.

The Neighbourhood Plan event yesterday evening went very well indeed, with over a hundred people attending and discussing the way our village might, and should, and must not, develop. I managed to get not a sniff of the wine, nor a bite of the cheese we had on offer, but oh gods! did I sleep well last night. :-)
