A poignant day for thoughts of senseless loss of lives.
I always found the old ‘Soldiers Gateway’ at Victoria Station really beautiful in its simplicity, it was the gate through which thousands of soldiers passed, many of them never to return. I hoped that it would be respected in the recent complete refurbishment of the station.
The steel and glass panel they have put into the gateway gives great reflections, but more importantly it features a map of the sites of World War 1 commonwealth grave sites and cemeteries throughout northern France and Belgium. The size of the individual holes in the steel corresponds to the number of fallen buried in Each location.

Puts things in perspective.
