'Another place'

Now the evenings are lighter, there is more opportunity for weekday adventure, and, as the Minx had to deliver a print to Liverpool, we decided to head up to Crosby Beach to see Sir Anthony Gormley's 'Another Place', which consists of a hundred statues embedded in the sand along a three kilometre stretch of the coastline, starting at the edge of the beach and heading a kilometre out to sea.

It's an oddly undramatic piece, perhaps because it is distributed over such a large area. And the fact the pieces are separated with maybe a hundred yards between them means that they each seem quite alone and noble as they face out to the sea, maintaining their dignity whilst daily accruing mud and sea-born detritus. (I think I sometimes have days like that.)
