Romeo+Juliet Deconstructed
I'm grateful for having a really special memory like this throughout my high school life.
This year we're reading "Romeo and Juliet" as ninth graders and we have two major assessments for it. The one that we'll going to do tomorrow is a quote exam and today, we had an act out. Our task was to get into groups, pick one or more scenes throughout the play and convey it to a different concept. With my group, we decided to do vignettes from the play and our concept was "Yeşilçam". Yeşilçam is the name given to the Turkish movies at 70s-80s. All of them are really cheesy but also funny with their silly fight scenes and rich girl poor boy romances. So, on Friday we presented to our class. We had three groups and a monologue. Our group was chosen to present for the whole 9th graders. We weren't expecting that and today our second performance went really well. I had a rehearsal so after our turn I had to go and couldn't watch the others. But still, everyone told our group that we were the best and we should win in a category. Everyone tells that you are not fully graduated from RC without performing Romeo and Juliet and it's a really nice memory.
