New Life From Old

The large tree trunk is a Sweet Chestnut - blown down years ago and rotting away in the wind, rain and sun - but a new tree, a Silver Birch, has chosen this on which to build its future life.  Its roots are entwined around the rotting wood of the old tree, and it seems to be thriving.
Mother Nature never fails to amaze me.
