Catthorpe Bridges

Right on the very southern tip of the county of Leicestershire, we have the M1-M6-A14 Catthorpe Interchange. Significant works are underway to increase capacity and make it entirely free-flowing. Around the site there are numerous interesting bridges, not least this one just east of the M1 River Avon viaduct. Both structures cross the county border into Northamptonshire, this area very much a hinterland and full of long distance connectivity. This old railway bridge once carried the Rugby and Stamford Railway line across the river, now long disused, the viaduct above was completed only one year before this line was closed down.
